This annual conference will focus on the many roles of environmental assessment in realizing sustainability in urban, regional and global contexts. IAIA'01 will focus on the family of related techniques, scientific and ethical principles used by impact assessment practitioners, together with the influence of societal, economic and political agendas in the context of sustainable development. Impact assessment needs redefinition and strengthening as we search for the way ahead through globalization and technological changes at the beginning of this new millennium.
